PAUL VENNER, the owner of 2,000 Guineas winner Mister Baileys, paid 60,000gns for a 40 per cent share in the leading chaser Antonin at Doncaster Sales yesterday, writes Sue Montgomery. Under the terms of the sale, the six-year- old will remain in Sue Bramall's Thirsk stable, but will carry the colours and logos of Venner's company.

The purchase values Antonin at 150,000gns, which makes him the most expensive chaser to be sold at public auction. His early-season target will be the Hennessy Gold Cup, with a possible seasonal debut in the Desert Orchid Chase at Wincanton.
