Racing: Precedent impresses

DANGERUS PRECEDENT established his claims for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival with a 10-length success over the same course and distance yesterday.

The only defeat suffered by the Charlie Egerton-trained chestnut in four previous starts was inflicted by the Triumph favourite, Katarino, at Prestbury Park in November and Egerton is not confident of gaining revenge on Nicky Henderson's runner.

"We will enter him for the Triumph and at the end of the day we would be stupid not to run in it," Egerton said. "He is good enough to run in it but I would be staggered if he was good enough to win it."

Ladbrokes and William Hill tend to agree, quoting Dangerus Precedent at 25-1 for the Triumph. Both firms have Katarino as their 8-1 favourite.

There was backing yesterday for the Eddie O'Grady-trained Impulsive Dream for the Ladbroke Hurdle a week today. He is now 12-1 (from 14-1) with William Hill and the same price (from 16-1) with Coral.
