Comply Or Die wins Grand National
Comply Or Die, ridden by Timmy Murphy, has won the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree.
The 7-1 joint favourite won by four lengths from King Johns Castle (20-1), ridden by Paul Carberry, with Snowy Morning (16-1) a further length-and-a-half back in third.
Murphy gave the David Pipe-trained Comply Or Die a superb ride to win the Grand National.
The well-backed joint-favourite was always travelling kindly and moved ominously well as a number of horses approached the last two fences.
Murphy waited with his mount until after the last and got a great response from the nine-year-old when he asked him to put his seal on the race.
Comply Or Die was backed into 7/1 joint favouritism on Britain's busiest ever day at the bookies.
And Ladbrokes was left counting the cost of an enormous old fashion plunge.
The firm's spokesman, David Williams, said: "Comply or Die was the best backed horse of the day by a country mile. It was the result we were dreading.
"Punters up and down the land have taken us to the cleaners."
