Point-to-Point: Honourable Spider hot on the scent at Dunthrop
Saturday 15 December 2007
Tomorrow's Farmers Bloodhounds at Dunthrop is subject to precautionary inspections scheduled for today (1.0pm) and early tomorrow morning, but there are no problems at the weekend's other meeting in Cornwall. The Dunthrop course was raceable yesterday and the landing sides of fences have been covered, so prospects look decent.
The mixed open (12.45) could go to Kent-based Honourable Spider who found the fences a bit int-imidating when unplaced in the Cheltenham Foxhunters. However, he has won two hunter-chases at Folkestone so may be better on a right-handed track like Dunthrop. Entry charges for the meeting are 10 per car to include the driver, plus 5 for each additional adult passenger.
This seems fair to both sides and solves the problem of the racegoer on his own paying 20 or 25 and then having to argue about the agreed single person's discount which some courses failed to give last season. Other meetings should follow suit.
It will be a big surprise if ex-hurdler Yufo fails to make the grade in points and he can make a successful start to his career between the flags in the 2.55 at Wadebridge.
FIXTURES: Today: Farmers Bloodhounds at Dunthrop. (First race 11.00). 2m NE of Chipping Norton, Oxon, at junction of A3400, A361. Tomorrow: North Cornwall at Wadebridge. (12.0). Royal Cornwall Showground, 1m W of town, nr A39.
