Point-to-Point: Lady Myfanwy a strong attraction

That tough Welsh mare Lady Myfanwy (2.30) looks set for her 10th win from 11 starts this season in the ladies' open at Bredwardine, Herefordshire, today. The seven-year-old's sole defeat came in a Leicester hunter chase won by Minouchka and the winner and third (Rydal Park) have won five races between them since.

Lady Myfanwy would probably be the season's leading horse if she had been confined to point-to-points but that honour goes to Iris's Gift (3.10) who can consolidate his position at the top of the table with win No 9 in the novice riders' club members race at Clifton-on-Teme tomorrow.

Rachael Green rode her 29th winner of the season on Castle Cazza at Cothelstone on Wednesday but still trails Polly Gundry by four in the ladies' title race.

There could still be an intriguing late twist to the men's championship. Oliver Greenall had seen off his two serious challengers when taking his total to 40 last weekend but no one had reckoned on Richard Woollacott, whose double on Wednesday put him in second place – 13 winners behind and his best season ever.

Admittedly it must be very long odds against Woolacott closing the gap but, including Larkhill on 28 May, after this weekend he still has six West Country meetings left, whereas Greenall's last fixture in his area is at Hexham on 25 May.
