Punters will need satellite navigation over the next few days as betting opportunities spring up in Northern Ireland and north Yorkshire today, and continue in Brazil tomorrow then Australia on Tuesday. As for Antigua, there is no signal.

First to the Interlagos circuit, where the Formula One drivers' championship will be decided between Britain's Lewis Hamilton and Brazil's Felipe Massa. Hamilton leads by seven points and can afford to coast into fifth place, and still become the youngest champion ever. That's the basic scenario.

But as we know from previous Formula One finales, the projected story rarely holds – last year, Hamilton had the same lead, only for Kimi Raikkonen to shoot past him and win by a point. Several factors come into play – chief of these is Raikkonen, obliged to help his team-mate take the championship from him. He let Massa through for an extra point in China and will do the same here, as well as taking on Hamilton. But I don't expect Hamilton to take the soft option so I'll back him to win – £10 at 13-5 with Sportingbet.

Jump racing looms large today and Paul Nicholls is expected to dominate the season as much as Aidan O'Brien did the Flat. The 2007 Gold Cup winner Kauto Star returns at Down Royal in Northern Ireland and should win the James Nicholson Chase, (£10 at 1-2 general), while Nicholls' Turko (£10 at 5-2 Bet 365) can bag the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby. O'Brien hasn't finished yet and Septimus (£10 at 4-1 Ladbrokes) can win the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

*We found two winners and a non-runner (always welcome) at the Breeders' Cup so finished slightly up on our $18 stake.
