THIRTY years ago, Tony Nash and Robin Dixon set a precedent. Mark Tout has now put pressure on himself to emulate their two-man triumph with the gold medal in the four-man. Tout knows all about the weight of expectation. Four years ago, with Lenny Paul as his brakeman, he led the two-man event after the first two runs, but in a sport where the difference between victory and not even finishing in the top three is measured in hundredths of a second, they could not hold on. They finished sixth and Tout drove the four-man team to seventh place.

Now the 33-year-old Royal Tank Regiment corporal is at the top of his form after five years of full-time bob driving. The former decathlete, who is especially effective in the four-man, has marked his best season in the bigger bob with a European Championship silver medal and a bronze at the World Cup.
