DENIS BETTS has told a relieved Wigan board that he does not plan to join the drain of talent to the Auckland Warriors, writes Dave Hadfield.

The Great Britain second row, who has been widely tipped to join his team-mates, Dean Bell and Andy Platt, at the club managed by the former Wigan coach, John Monie, told the directors that he wants to extend his contract beyond the 18 months it has to run.

Salford, who play Wigan in the Regal Trophy semi-final on Saturday, have transfer- listed their former Wigan prop, Ged Stazicker, at pounds 55,000 at his own request. Left out of the first team in recent weeks, Stazicker could yet be required against his old club because Salford have injury doubts over three forwards: David Young, Mark Lee and Paul Forber.
