Rugby Union: Round-Up: Jenkins a doubt for Wembley date

NEIL JENKINS has added to the Wales coach Graham Henry's injury worries after undergoing a scan on his injured shoulder. The Pontypridd fly-half, who sat out yesterday's 41-0 Swalec Cup win at Cwmllynfell but plans to train with the Wales squad this afternoon, originally suffered the injury during his club's European Cup quarter-final defeat by Stade Francais in December.

Jenkins has battled through the pain of late and scored 10 points in Wales' opening Five Nations' Championship defeat by Scotland last weekend - his 60th cap. Henry has already lost the Cardiff wing Gareth Thomas while the Lions prop David Young is battling to recover from a calf injury in time to face Ireland at Wembley on Saturday.

Swansea eased to a nine-try, 58-24 home win over Northampton yesterday - their 16th victory in Anglo-Welsh friendlies this season. Mark Taylor, David Weatherley and Arwel Thomas each went over twice for the All Whites, who fielded 12 internationals against what was virtually a Saints' second team.

In the Swalec Cup sixth round, Swansea will visit Bridgend, who won 29- 0 yesterday at Nantymoel, while Pontypridd will entertain Bonymaen. Aberavon's Premier Division gloom deepened as they went down 63-24 away to third- placed Neath for whom Delme Williams claimed a hat-trick of tries and Brett Sinkinson a brace.

Worcester held on to their two-point lead at the top of Allied Dunbar Premiership Two with a 56-0 home win over Fylde in which Simon Morris ran in two tries and Richard Le Bas chalked up 19 points. Worcester thus dramatically improved their points difference to within five of second- placed Bristol who struggled to see off Leeds 20-5. Four touchdowns from Dean Lax enabled third-placed Rotherham to hammer Orrell 47-10 while Andy Currier's ninth league try of the season helped London Welsh to consolidate fourth position with a 30-16 success at Wakefield.

Manchester still lead Jewson National League One on points difference after a hard-fought 23-17 defeat of Morley while their main rivals Henley had a comfortable ride en route to beating Nottingham 43-24.

Glasgow Hawks let slip a chance to pull level with Heriot's FP at the top of the Tennent's Velvet Premiership when they drew 9-9 at Watsonians. Lansdowne went two points clear in the AIB Irish league with a 17-15 victory away to the previous leaders Garryowen.
