Saracens may have a useful and arguably unfair advantage in the European Champions Cup this weekend. By the time of their Sunday afternoon kick-off away to Clermont Auvergne, the four other pools will be complete.

Both teams at the sold-out Stade Marcel Michelin will be aware of the result they need to progress to the quarter-finals, either as pool winners or one of the best three runners-up.

Chris Ashton intends to make the most of thechance. “We’re here to make memories,” said Ashton after the 33-10 win over Munster on Saturday. “We’ve made one against Munster and hopefully we’ll make another. We’re up for the challenge.”

Wasps director of rugby David Young lauded his captain James Haskell after a 23-3 win over Harlequins set up a winner-takes-all showdown against Leinster on Saturday.

“I thought he was outstanding,” Young said. “I don’t think he’s had a bad game for us for a while, he probably covered every blade of grass.”

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill remained cautious about his team’s prospects of progression after they beat the Scarlets 40-23. “To go to Ravenhill and win is one thing. To go there, score four tries and get five points is a big ask,” he said.
