Saracens have interviewed a short list of four to succeed Steve Diamond, who left in February.

Jones has a temporary role as Saracens' consultant coach and the presence of Gaffney on the short list is no surprise. Jones is a big admirer of the former Munster coach. Saracens expect to announce the appointment in the next two days.

Brian Smith, the London Irish director of rugby, has been charged with verbally abusing referee Nick Williams and touch-judge James Minards during and after a Guinness 'A' League match against Gloucester last month.

The severity of the punishment - up to a touchline ban - will depend on the gravity of the incident or incidents.
