Welcome to The Independent's live coverage of England's opening Autumn international as they take on South Africa at Twickenham Stadium.

The reigning Six Nations Grand Slam champions remain unbeaten under head coach Eddie Jones, and they face a Springboks side deep in transition after a terrible Rugby Championship campaign - they enter the match off the back of a 57-15 mauling by the All Blacks.

However, South Africa currently hold the longest unbeaten record against England, with the red rose's last victory coming back in November 2006 when they beat the Springboks 23-21 here at Twickenham.

The match is due to kick-off at 14:30 and will begin England's four-match programme this Autumn, with Fiji, Argentina and Australia waiting in the wings. We'll bring you full build-up coverage from pitchside at from 13:00, but for now read some of the latest news this week as well as take part in our poll on who will win the match.

We're already set-up here at Twickenham, so you won't miss a beat in the lead up to the game. We'll also be keeping our on the match kicking off at 14:30 this afternoon as Scotland face Australia at BT Murrayfield, with revenge very much on the cards after last year's controversial Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat - coincidentally here at HQ.

Ahead of the weekend's action, our own Jack Austin spoke to Brian O'Driscoll, who had some glowing words of encouragement for Wasps centre Elliot Daly. He finally makes his pong-deserved first start for England today at outside centre, and BOD reckons he could flourish with George Ford and Owen Farrell inside him.

Not forgetting Scotland, Jack Austin also spoke to full-back Stuart Hogg about the revenge mission against Australia, and how testing himself against one of the best 15s in the world will be a challenge to relish:

He may not be involved int he England set-up anymore, but former England and British and Irish Lions prop Alex Corbisiero believes they're onto a winner with Eddie Jones at the helm, and have regained the typical English swagger that carried them to the World Cup success 13 years ago.

All eyes might be on the entertaining livewire at 13 today, but there's also a notable inclusion in the pack in the form of Tom Wood. The Northampton Saints flanker hasn't played since the final World Cup group match against Uruguay last year, and on that occasion - as every other in the red rose - he wore the No 6 shirt. The jersey now belongs to Chris Robshaw, and how will Wood get on as he gets the chance to impress Eddie Jones?

The England team have just arrived outside the golden gates at Twickenham, and march straight into the stadium surrounded by hundreds of cheering fans. We're about an hour and 20 minutes away from kick-off, but we'll bring you some updates from the warm-up as the teams emerge in about 40 minutes time.

One hour to go and Twickenham remains very much empty as fans seek shelter in anywhere they can (that has a licensed bar or otherwise, of course). Saying that, it looks like the rain is easing up out there, and we might just get underway without any rain falling, although the turf will be drenched out there today.
