Never mind simply making the starting line-up, the IRB's Player of the Year is likely to be the first name on Ian McGeechan's team sheet if he can maintain the stunning form he has shown over the last 12 months. His twinkling feet frightened the life out of South Africa on Wales' summer tour when he eclipsed Bryan Habana and his ability to create something out of nothing makes him a potential match-winner
Roar potential: Five Lions

It's one of the oldest, most treasured traditions in rugby. The Lions are here again. Head coach Ian McGeechan names his initial squad on Tuesday as the Lions bandwagon begins to roll towards South Africa.

how is rory lamont on this list? he doesn't even make the scottish test side anymore nd lets face it the scottish are as s**t as the english. On top of this i agree with mrrees Strettle should not be on this list as well Leigh Halfpenny will be in the 14 shirt and Williams in the 11 shirt

Leigh Halfpenny has taken every step-up in his stride and has a good place-kick to boot...I hate to contradict my Irish friend above but I think Byrne edges it at 15 doesn't he? Come to think of it, the Wales v Ireland game on 21st has more than a potential 6 Nations championship riding on it, there will be players hotly contesting the same Lions berths on show. Should be a cracker.
