Should England lose to Australia this weekend there could be a silver lining for Red Rose fans.

Many of those who have bought tickets for the knock-out stage of the tournament in the hope of seeing Stuart Lancaster's side are expected to put them up for re-sale should England fail to advance from the pool phase.

England will be out of their own tournament if they lose on Saturday night.

With tens of thousands of tickets potentially going up for sale, it could net England fans millions of pounds according to one ticket re-sale website.

Oliver Wheeler, spokesman for viagogo commented: "If the unthinkable were to happen, at least England fans would be flushed with some cash, if not with pride."

The demand for tickets to the tournament has been huge, with a pair for England's must-win match against Australia at Twickenham on Saturday selling for £8,000.
