A mistake by the Scottish Rugby Union's online retail partner inadvertently led to T-shirts boasting of a Calcutta Cup win being put up for sale ahead of Saturday's RBS 6 Nations opener between Scotland and England.

An incorrect selection in a website stock check by Greaves Sports resulted in T-shirts produced following the 2008 Calcutta Cup win at Murrayfield being re-released, declaring "Calcutta Cup. Scotland. Winners."

The error over the four-year-old garments was made on Friday and corrected yesterday.

A spokesman for Greaves Sports said: "This was nothing more than an administrative error with some old stock ending up on the website by mistake.

"These T-shirts were hugely popular back in 2008 when Scotland last took Calcutta Cup honours and hopefully this will be a good omen for Saturday and they'll end up in demand once more."

England won the last meeting between the sides to eliminate Scotland from the World Cup in October.

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson is yet to taste victory over England, the defending Six Nations champions who will be seeking their first win in Edinburgh since 2004, having lost in 2006 and 2008 and drawn in 2010.
