1. Alberto De Marchi (Italy):
The Italian prop coped well in an intense battle in the front row. Having been marched backwards in the opening scrum, the Italians worked their way back into the contest, with De Marchi taking on England’s scrum machine Dan Cole and winning more than once. Joe Marler deserves a mention for steadying the English scrum.

13. Brian O’Driscoll (Ireland):
Not his best game, but just try and fault his commitment. With a good attacking kick in the first half that led to Heaslip’s try, O’Driscoll defended admirably and put his body on the line in trying to stop the rampaging French pack in the last quarter. With his centre partner Luke Marshall out for the count, and himself clearly dazed, O’Driscoll was ordered off the pitch for an enforced concussion ‘test’ in what could be his final appearance for Ireland in Dublin, only to re-emerge with even more bandaging around his head to finish the 80 minutes and hold onto a draw.
