Argentina's scrum-half Agustin Pichot believes the Pumas, surprise quarter-finalists at the 1999 World Cup, will do even better in Australia next year.

Refusing to be discouraged by his team's indifferent 2002 season, Pichot said: "Technically, we will be in a better state and that will help us reach our target which is to do better than in the last World Cup."

Pichot admitted his team had to do better than this year's international programme, when they lost at home to England and Australia and away to Ireland and South Africa. He said a vastly improved team spirit had boosted his optimism for the World Cup. "The squad are all thinking the same for the first time and putting the team first," he said.
