Llanelli Scarlets scored three tries at Clermont Auvergne yesterday, which is no mean feat. Unfortunately, they also conceded seven in a 48-21 defeat.

Dafydd James, Dwayne Peel and Regan King scored the Welsh region's tries, Stephen Jones kicking two conversions. The France wing Aurélien Rougerie scored a hat-trick for Clermont and Julien Malzieu, Julien Bonnaire, Brock James and Thomas Domingo also touched down. James kicked four conversions and a penalty and the former Wasp Alex King – off the bench with the World Cup-winning South Africa captain John Smit – another conversion.

On Saturday, Harlequins lost 37-17 to Stade Français, the tournament favourites, in Paris and London Irish beat Treviso 42-9 at the Madejski Stadium.
