We deserved to lose and I can't believe how many errors we made. We had enough ball but we just made too many errors and our line-out was a disaster. We've been here before and we've just got to try to bounce back. We've got to learn and move on. It's a very disappointing day, but we've got to try to be positive about it.

Clive Woodward, England manager

We had opportunities to create some holes but Ireland had done their homework and put pressure on our key men. They were awesome. We knew they would overperform and we knew we had to, but we didn't. It's pretty hard to take. We've come up against three teams who played out of their skins over the last three years and they have outplayed us, but in a way that proves the worth of the Six Nations' Championship.

Matt Dawson, England captain

They wanted it more than we did. We had to come to Lansdowne Road under a lot of pressure to win and we've thrown it away. We weren't very creative on the day but all credit to them.

Mike Catt, England centre

Injury time seemed to go on forever. They had so much pressure in the second half. We knew we needed to score early on and that set the tone for us.

Brian O'Driscoll, Ireland centre
