UK A reaches semi-finals

Stephen Tylecote, Greg Eaton and Roger Morris steered the United Kingdom A team into the last four of the inaugural Sony Psygnosis-sponsored IYRU World Team Racing Championship at West Kirby Club, writes Andrew Preece. Teams of three boats from nine countries raced each other in a round-robin sail-off. United Kingdom A, favourites to win overall, now face USA A with Australia racing Ireland in the other semi-final. At Weymouth, the Brut-sponsored British Olympic trials get under way today after competitors in all nine classes passed measurement scrutiny yesterday. Missing from the trials, at which nine of the ten Olympic representatives will be selected, is Rob White who has pulled out of the Tornado class. He was due to contest with his 12-year-old son, Thomas, as crew.
