Wigan Athletic have signed Leeds United's 21-year-old left-back, Kevin Sharp, for a club-record pounds 100,000. Sharp has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and is expected to make his debut at Plymouth Argyle a week on Saturday.

Jordi Cruyff, the Barcelona forward, will be out of action for two months because of a knee injury. The striker, whose father, Johan, is Barcelona's coach, has already missed most of the season because of the injury.

George Weah, the Liberian international, has been voted the best African footballer of 1995 by the Confederation of African . The 29-year- old Milan striker finished top of a poll with 45 points, 15 more than Japhet N'Doram of Chad, who came second.
