Snooker: Doherty sprints into second round
Ken Doherty, whose pre-tournament practice was curtailed by flu, reached the last 32 of the UK Championship at Preston yesterday, sweeping four frames to complete a 9-3 victory over Nick Terry. 'I was a bit rusty because I had only two days preparation,' said Doherty after taking only 52 minutes to turn a 5-3 overnight lead into victory. Davie Harold, the Asian Open champion, joined Doherty in the second round by beating Neal Foulds by the same margin. Harold was 7-1 ahead overnight and put together a 109-break in the 10th frame.
