Nicky Gooch's miserable world championships continued in Guildford yesterday when he crashed in the 1,000 metres and failed to reach the semi-finals. Gooch, who won bronze in the 500m at the Olympics, admitted he was 'too laid back and overconfident' going into the quarter-finals. He fell with five laps to go and finished fourth. 'There was a lot of pressure on me after my success at the Olympics, skating at my home rink, and I put a lot of pressure on myself,' Gooch said. 'Hopefully I'll have more of an appetite to win it next year.'
