The International Amateur Athletic Federation has overruled a decision by the South African federation to lift a three-month drugs ban on Philip Spies, the javelin thrower. Spies tested positive at the All Africa Invitation meeting in Johannesburg in September but was later cleared by A South Africa after claiming the banned substance was contained in a vitamin supplement he was taking with the consent of ASA officials.
