Today: 7,000 runners took part in the first London Marathon in 1981.
Wednesday: In 1961, 37,774 watched Crystal Palace against Millwall - a record for the then Fourth Division.
Friday: Manchester United's Duncan Edwards, aged 18, made his England debut in the 7-2 win over Scotland at Wembley in 1955.
Saturday: The Grand National that never was, in 1993. After a second false start, some horses completed the course, with heaps of abuse showered on the starter.
