SAID AOUITA, who won the Olympic 5,000 metres title in Los Angeles but fell between two stools when attempting the 800m-1500m double in Seoul four years later, announced yesterday that he will focus his attentions on the 1500m in Barcelona.

MATTHEW YATES, the European indoor 1500 metres champion, ruled himself out of a comeback race after a viral infection at the Ron Pickering Memorial meeting at Haringey yesterday but insisted he was on the way to proving his fitness to Britain's Olympic selectors and may run in Lausanne on Wednesday or at Crystal Palace on Friday.
