MAURIZIO DAMILANO, the former Olympic champion, set a world record of 2hr 1min 44sec in the 30km walk on his farewell performance in Cuneo, Italy.

KEN WILMSHURST, the former English athletics captain, died in hospital yesterday, aged 61. Wilmshurst captained the English team at the 1954 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, where he won both long and triple jumps.
