THE Colorado Rockies, due to make their major league debut next spring, are expected to appoint the St Louis Cardinals batting coach, Don Baylor, as manager. One of four leading contenders for the post, Baylor, 42, turned out for seven major league teams including the Oakland Athletic's and the Boston Red Sox during his 19-year playing career.
