BIRMINGHAM, bottom of the First Division, yesterday signed the former Carlisle and Bristol City central defender, Paul Fitzpatrick, on a free transfer from Leicester.

HERBERT PROHASKA, the former Austrian international, was appointed Austria's national team manager in succession to Ernst Happel, who died in December.

PAUL WILLIAMS, the West Bromwich Albion striker, has rejoined Stockport for pounds 25,000 - less than two years after leaving for Albion in a pounds 250,000 transfer.
