PAUL STEWART of Liverpool has been banned for three European matches after being sent off in the first round of the Uefa Cup against Apollon Limassol of Cyprus. Hibernian were fined pounds 5,900 by Uefa yesterday because of crowd misbehaviour in their Uefa Cup tie against Anderlecht.

THOMAS HAUSER, Sunderland's German-born striker, has been sold to the Dutch club, SC Cambuur, for pounds 50,000.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST, helped by two appearances in Wembley finals last season, turned a loss of over pounds 1m in 1991 into an after-tax profit of pounds 235,000 for the financial year ending on 31 May. Reaching the final of the Rumbelows Cup brought in pounds 1.144m and winning the Zenith Data Systems Cup added a further pounds 637,000.

SPAIN'S squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland does not include Emilio Butragueno, the country's second-most capped player. The 29-year-old Real Madrid forward was dropped for the friendly against England last month and did not play against Latvia three weeks ago. The new coach, Javier Clemente, said that Claudio Barragan, from the current league leaders Deportivo Coruna, will make his debut in Belfast.
