DON HOWE, the Chelsea coach, was in hospital last night for precautionary chest checks after being taken ill. The 57-year- old former England coach had a triple heart bypass operation in 1988.

BILL KENYON, the former chairman of Wigan Athletic, yesterday sold his majority shareholding in the Second Division club to Corporate Resources Ltd, a London- based company, for a reported pounds 300,000.

BRIAN HILLIER, the former Swindon Town chairman, was freed yesterday from a 12-month prison sentence for his part in a tax dodge involving under-the-counter payments to players. The Court of Appeal rejected Hillier's challenge to his conviction but ruled the sentence was unnecessarily severe.
