YORKSHIRE'S Stuart Cage won the English amateur championship with a 3 and 2 victory over Lancashire champion Ralph Hutt in the 36-hole final at Royal Cinque Ports, Deal yesterday. The 19-year-old from Leeds is the first player to win the title and the Lytham Trophy in the same year since Warren Humphreys in 1971.

LAURA DAVIES had a third round 69 to take the lead in the English Women's Open championship at Tytherington yesterday. The former British and US Open champion from Surrey, who is on 210, nine under par, is two strokes clear of Sweden's Carin Hjalmarsson.
