JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH, president of the International Olympic Committee said yesterday that Sydney's bid for the 2000 Olympics was the perfect example to its rivals of how to stage an environmentally friendly Games. 'I would like to stress that the Australian Olympic Committee is one of the 184 National Olympic Committees who have signed a pledge-of-the- earth document for the protection of nature and the environment,' Samaranch said. Sydney won the support of the international environmental organisation, Greenpeace, in its plans for the sports park and the athletes' Olympic village, which included solar power and recycled water.
