PETER MARSHALL, the double- handed player who climbed to world No 5 on Monday, reached the quarter-finals of the Spanish Open in Madrid yesterday. The England No 1 beat the Scottish No 1, Mark Maclean, 15-6, 15-13, 15-8, and thus moved to within one victory of his projected semi-final meeting with the world champion, Jansher Khan. Marshall's success also helped atone for the surprise defeat of the England No 2, Chris Walker, to the Pakistani qualifier, Zarak Jahan Khan.
