Rumours that All Black wing Jonah Lomu was lining up talks with Saracens were last night scotched by his manager. The story had arisen because Lomu had been contacted about Will Carling's now cancelled testimonial, in whcih Carling's team was to have been run by the Saracens director of coaching, Mark Evans.

Newcastle Falcons are to leave the Gateshead International Stadium and return to their old Kingston Park ground, after poor crowds for their three home matches this season.

Francis Baron, the Rugby Football Union chief executive, has been appointed a director of English Rugby Partnership and the European Rugby Cup Ltd.
