Canada will host the 2001 International Cricket Council Trophy in which 25 teams from non-Test playing nations participate. Kenya, Scotland and Bangladesh, participated in this summer's World Cup after qualifying at the last ICC Trophy held in Malaysia two years ago.

The ICC will meet in September to decide the venue of the second Mini World Cup. The United States, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates have offered to host the tournament. The last Mini World Cup played in Bangladesh in 1998 was won by South Africa. Other participants were England, Australia, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
