The head of South Africa's United Cricket Board, Dr Ali Bacher, has reaffirmed the UCB's policy of including black players in the national team whenever possible after criticisms of its racial make-up. "Wherever an opportunity arises we will bring the peripheral players, both black and white, on to the field of play," he said.

The Nottinghamshire opener Tim Robinson, the oldest player currently playing first-class cricket in Enlgand, is to retire at the end of this season. Robinson, 40, made 29 Test appearances for England and has accumulated 24,335 first-class runs in his 21-year career at Trent Bridge.
