Sporting Digest: Cricket
THE West Indies are to protest formally about the crowd setting off fireworks and throwing missiles during the one-day international against India in Ahmedabad yesterday, which the West Indies won. Play was suspended for 40 minutes as spectators threw stones and plastic bottles at West Indian fielders. India's team manager, Ajit Wadekar, also insisted he would report the disturbance to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Mohammed Azharuddin, India's captain, added: 'This was the worst crowd I have ever seen.'
