Peter Keen, the man who coached Chris Boardman to his Olympic pursuit title and world hour record, was yesterday named as the British Cycling Federation's new performance director.

The world road race championships in 2000 yesterday were awarded to Plouay, in France, who last hosted the event at Chambery in 1989.

Belgium's Johan Museeuw may miss the defence of his world road race title in San Sebastian, Spain, on Sunday because of a recurrence of kidney trouble which he suffered during the Tour de France in July. He is to decide today whether he is fit for the 256.5km championship.
