MARIE PURVIS, the British road race champion from the Isle of Man, beat Beryl Burton's 25-year-old event record to win the women's 25-mile time trial at the Isle of Man international festival yesterday. Purvis covered the course near Kirk Michael in 1hr 0min 7sec, taking two seconds off the 1968 record of the former world champion, Burton.
