Mart Poom has signed a two-year extension to his contract with Derby County. The 27-year-old Estonian goalkeeper has committed himself to the club until 2002.

Stephane Mahe, the Celtic defender has been banned for two matches following his sending off against Rangers on 2 May. The Scottish Football Association have also severely censured the Frenchman and warned him as to his future conduct.

Ajax of Amsterdam have signed the Greek international striker Nikos Machlas from Vitesse Arnhem for pounds 5.2m. Machlas joins the new signings Brian Laudrup, formerly of Chelsea, and Aron Winter, the Dutch international, at the club.
