The Premier League has appointed Sam Chisholm and David Chance as advisers on commercial and media matters. Chisholm was chief executive and managing director at BSkyB from November 1991 until last December and Chance was deputy managing director at the company from January 1994 to the same time. Chisholm and Chance are on the boards at Tottenham and Sunderland respectively.

Hull, the Nationwide League's bottom club, have appointed Warren Joyce as their new manager. John McGovern, the former Derby and Nottingham Forest midfielder who was manager at Woking last season, has been named as Joyce's assistant.

The Italy and Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero is to undergo surgery to repair a torn left knee ligament next week. The injury is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season.
