THE veteran Hearts goalkeeper Henry Smith has agreed a new one- year contract to stay at Tynecastle. The new manager, Tommy McLean, who took over at Hearts last week, said he welcomed Smith's decision and that he is now considering backroom appointments.

THE referee Philip Don, who presided over his first World Cup game when Saudi Arabia beat Morocco 2-1 at the weekend in New York, will take charge of the pre-season Charity Shield match between Manchester United and the Premiership runners-up, Blackburn Rovers.
