PSV EINDHOVEN have appointed Aad de Mos, who was dismissed by Anderlecht last season, as their new coach. He replaces Hans Westerhof, who was sacked earlier this month after PSV lost their Dutch title to Feyenoord.

BRAZIL were beaten 3-2 by Chile in the first round of the Copa America - the South American Championship - in Cuenca, Ecuador, on Monday and are unlikely to reach the quarter-finals. The Brazilians were without any of their Europe-based players.

MALTA'S national coach, Pippo Psaila, resigned yesterday, three days after a 4-0 defeat by Portugal in a World Cup European Group One qualifier.

ROMA are poised to sign the Argentinian striker, Abel Balbo, from their Italian Serie A rivals, Udinese. Roma's Andrea Carnevale will rejoin Udinese in part-exchange for Balbo, who scored 21 league goals last term.
