The Great Britain captain, Andy Farrell, could need an ankle operation before the start of the season. Farrell is to see a specialist tomorrow. "It has been bothering me for about three months,"the Wigan loose forward said. "It has been really sore after training and if I'm going to need an operation this is the best time to have it done."

The World Nines, scheduled for Australia or New Zealand next month, have been scrapped because there is not enough time to organise them.
