GARRY SCHOFIELD, the Great Britain captain and Leeds stand-off, could miss the start of next season because of complications following an ear complaint. Schofield will have a further operation at the end of next week and it is likely to be three months before he can play. A long-term infection had perforated his eardrum.

ANDREW FARRAR, the former Australian Test centre, has decided to retire and will not be taking up the offer of a second season with Wigan.
