Sports Letter: Ferguson's folly

Sir: With reference to 'Ferguson takes BBC team to task' (31 January), I was quite shocked to learn Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United Manager, went on the offensive, when the BBC criticised his top player, Eric Cantona. Although United are a great side, and Cantona a fine player, I had to agree with Jimmy Hill that the two tackles made by Cantona against Norwich should have seen him sent off.

The country is full of praise for Manchester United, but Ferguson should learn to take criticism when it is justified.

Yours faithfully

A SAWYER
