Sports Letter: RFU rule OK

Sir: With regard to Chris Hewett's article (17 November), surely the English RFU should be commended on their decision to continue with Clive Woodward as England coach.

Of course England were disappointing in both their crunch matches in the World Cup. However, few would argue realistically that England had the expansive backs at their disposal to trouble the world's top nations or that Woodward was not pulling his side in the right direction. The most important aspect of Woodward staying put is the continuity of coaching, tactics and selection this brings.

Even if his contract is not renewed next summer, at least there will be time for a full and thorough handover to his successor.
