Sports Letters: Batty batting

Sir: After having witnessed the shambolic batting performance by England in the first Test, is Ted Dexter now ready to ask that well- known commentator David Gower if he brought his bat with him?

Of course Gower could always make do by borrowing from Robin Smith, Neil Fairbrother or Graeme Hick, as they appear to have little use for their own bats.
