The British tournament championships at Elland this weekend have much to offer the spectator. Britain's leading water skiers will be competing for places at senior, under-21 and junior level in the British team. The senior squad goes to Milan next month for the European championships with the European junior event in Prague following. Tournament water skiing is made up of three elements: in the slalom, skiers have to round buoys with an ever-shortening tow line; the trick section allows competitors an individual routine of gymnastic turns; the final category is the jumping in which the skier launches himself off a ramp at full pace. Watch out for Sarah Blake, Nicola Huntridge and Corinna Williams, who, as part of the silver medal winning team at the World junior championships in Colombia recently, will give the senior women a serious run for medal places.

How to get three: White Rose Water Ski Club is on the A643 between Brighouse and Elland, west Yorkshire. Signposted from junction 25 of M62. Admission: pounds 1 adults, children free. Catering facilities. Competition starts tomorrow at 8.30am until 6pm. On Sunday, finals from 9am. (048 440 0606).
